This website/app is awesome! You can use a map to create a route and find out the distance, then you can log your workouts and keep track of your progress. You can also post your progress on Twitter and Facebook (which I have done accidentally, trying to figure out how to take it off)

You can also use the app and GPS to track/time you as you run. I have not used this feature yet.
