FREEEEEEEEEE!!!!!

If you are trying to squeeze out the last few days of summer vacation, we recommend these:

On Wednesday evening Breton, Daphne and I took in Kontinuum .  It is almost done so if you have not had a chance to go it  is something interesting to do while wandering around downtown.  We pre-booked our FREE tickets and when we went it was not busy at all (around 4:45pm).  Don't forget to smile when they scan you:)

We then walked down Sparks St and took the bridge over to MOSAICANADA in Jacques Cartier Parc.
And it was all free...even the parking:)

Breton is starving in this pic. We went over the dinner hour and hadn't planned to be gone so long.  Poor man-boy:(

It was amazing the sculptures they made incorporating all the different kinds of plants.

P!NKALIOUS!

So there is this whole series of -ALIOUS books by Victoria Kann. The first one is  Pinkalious

Then there is Purplalious, Goldalious, Aqualious etc...

Well, one of the lines in Pinkalious is "you get what you get and you don't get upset"

I use this line all the time when I am teaching, usually when I am handing out a variety of items and I don't need to hear  "I want pink" or "I want blue" or "I want the green dinosaur with the red polka dots", you get the picture.

Well on Sunday night, I went to Bluesfest with this Lady:

And we saw P!nk!

It was a high energy show that did not disappoint.  It did not matter that I could only see her mainly on the big screens, or that there were pushy people weaving their way within the packed crowd or that we had kooky screamers behind us...

Or that it POURED rain for probably 15 minutes in the middle of the show!

I have listened to her music so long I was able to sing a long to every song, she played my strength song: TRY, she continued singing in the rain...Mirka and I didn't bring any rain gear but ended up under other peoples' umbrellas (but still got kinda soaked, water ran off other umbrellas drenching us, but it did not matter! ). The rain did not last and right before it started there was a huge blast of lightening behind the stage, that it looked like P!nk had planned it as part of the show.

We sang, we danced and had fun

We got what we got and we did not get upset:)

***Anyone going to Bluesfest in the future, I highly recommend parking at Tunney's Pasture and walking. It is a wee bit of a walk...but you need to walk!

My Fur Babies give SHOUT OUT!

When Paul and I booked our trip it was somewhat last minute.  My children had their Dad but my fur babies, Ruby, Phoenix and Vanilla we weren't to sure of what to do with them.  Two large-ish dogs are hard to find someone who has the space or time especially around the holiday season...

But we did end up finding Christine Kirkland of Fur-kidz Pet Care Service!  She came and stayed at my place.  Christine was very thorough, letting me know her schedule involving other clients and when she would be with my pets, she sent emails to us in Cuba and she left this little note when I arrived back:

I appreciate her.  She took on a lot, just walking the two dogs can be a workout. If you need a pet sitter contact Christine 613-731-0657 or ck.furkidz@gmail.com

Wanna run a 100k relay? Ok you do not have to run the whole thing but be a part of a team that works together to complete the 100k.

Gonna hook you with this!!!!

Thank you to everyone who has donated to my Easter Seals fundraising.  I tell my kids I am 1/2 Canadian 1/2 Crazy and all this fundraising is allowing me to take part in another exciting adventure: rappelling down a 20 story building at 280 Slater Street on September 21st.

Here is a link to a video as to what funds raised by Easter Seals helps with:

To further raise funds for www.thedropzone.ca #eastersealsontario, I am selling hooks made from branches.  They are rustic looking, approximately 5-7 inches long, they come with screws and plugs to hang and are $5.00 each.  I can even mail them to you!!! For free!!!  All funds will go directly to my fundraising.
Very easy to put up!

He is so not a Gongshow!

So Breton's favourite clothing line is Gongshow! We usually get it at Play It Again Sports. It is a local company, all about hockey! @gongshowgear
www.gongshowgear.com
Where they are in Ottawa:
https://maps.google.ca/maps?rlz=1CDGOYI_enCA633CA633&espv=1&hl=en-US&um=1&ie=UTF-8&fb=1&gl=ca&sll=45.3808996,-75.7451908&sspn=0.0002136,0.0004055&q=www.gongshowgear.

He mainly has hats.

This is his collection:

I even joked with his teacher Mr.Rose that he would work and get paid in Gongshow Gear!

He has worn the black/red/white baseball cap and the blue/white/black one so much in a year that the straps at the back have broke:(
Could be Breton's big puff of hair that caused them to bust!
:p

I am campaigning for them to make women's briefs a la men's tightie whities but in cool colours (purple plz!)

My favourite shirt of theirs is "Son Of A Beauty!"

....cuz Breton is!!!! Hahaha;)

Ran- dumb?!?

Have you been to Skyzone yet?  It is a huge trampoline place, off of Conroy.

The pix are blurry but now you have to
Buy these funky sox in order to go tramping.  The first time we went we had to rent shoes...kinda gross.
It's a great work out but for my older lady friends, one piece of advice...pad up!

Born to be free!

Ok maybe I should say "born to love a freebe!"

This summer I have discovered/taken advantage of many free activities that lurk about our great city of Ottawa.

Here is a list:

Free museum passes from the library- during the summer they can be hard to come by but you can look them up online and see where they are available.  Be warned there are some sharks in the water when it comes to obtaining these passes.  They usually lurk just outside the library doors before it even opens and then when the doors do get unlocked, they strike!  Nearly taking you out on the way to the check out desk! www.biblioottawalibrary.ca

B&D @ the Agriculture Museum

Breton, Daphne & Molly at the Aviation Museum

They have passes for every museum and the Art Gallery!

Festivals:  There have been many this summer.  We are planning to take in the KIDS FEST this weekend on Sparks St.

BMX Park- This past spring a local BMX park was built in Barrhaven and Breton has been several times.  Daphne has yet to be convinced to try it.  I like it because I get a chance to catch up on stuff while chillin' in the car or I am in charge of taking video and pix of B on the track.  Located: along Strandherd Dr just past the Royal Oak

Splash Pad/wading pool events like this one: (we are going tomorrow):

At Centrepointe

A dance party in the park, combined with the fun of a splash pad, water art activities, games, demonstrations and a BBQ Lunch—it’s all a part of the Lunchtime Performing Arts Series—and the best part is, it’s FREE.
The City of Ottawa invites you to bring your family to experience this jam-packed day of arts activities at the Centrepointe Park this Thursday, August 22, 2013 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Ottawa’s own Luv 2 Groove will teach you few dance moves. You can play giant board games courtesy of Centrepointe Theatres, do arts activities with the City of Ottawa’s Arts Animation Team and instructors from the Nepean Creative Arts Centre, watch science and sports demonstrations and so much more...
Bring your bathing suit and cool off at the splash pad. Centrepointe Splash is not only one of the biggest and best splash pads with its tipping bucket and spraying loop – de – loop, but this summer, it is the first splash pad to host this Citywide Major Special Event.
Check out the schedule below for details or visit the seasonal activities page on ottawa.ca/recreation for more information and to learn about the entire series happening across the City.

Beaches:  There are many around town.  We have enjoyed Mooney's Bay more than once this year. www.ottawa.ca

Nature trails/dog park:  We have been at least once a week because of Ruby but while walking the trail try GEOCACHING.  You can get an app on your phone and then you use it, along with clues, to find hidden treasure!  Geocaching is a whole other world with some hardcore participants, (booking family vacations based on good geocaches) but it is fun to tryout. www.geocaching.com (**the app does cost $10)

Ruby at the dog park

Sunday Bike Days- the city closes down Sir John A Macdonald Parkway,Colonel  By Parkway and a few others and you can bike, run or roller blade. This ends September 2nd.  We did it once so far.  We started at Hogs Back:) also fun to check out too!

The Library- Besides books and museum passes, I borrow DVDs and the kids get Wii games.

Friend's Pool: OK this one you are on your own, I am not sharing my family and friends with pools, but I am so lucky to know several people with pools and a lake:)  Hey you can always turn on your sprinkler and run through it, kinda the same eh?!
