Kerplunk, bam, bam, boom

"Lift from your belly button" my ballet instructor says as we do our pliƩ.

I think I am. There are only four of us in the class.  She has said it more than once.  I know she is talking to me.  Two of my classmates have been doing this class and the other has a bit of dance background.

I have none.  Unless you count the ballet I did when I was five.  I had mean princess walk but when I got in trouble for not putting my hair up...I quit.

"Look in the mirror. Make sure your bum is moving down not sticking out."

I have chosen the one spot in the room where I do not have a mirror in front of me. And I like it that way.

I have to say I thought I was flexible with all my yoga classes but we hold stretches for a looooong time.  Oh and the splits...just not there yet:) don't think I will ever be there.

But the whole time I am smiling.  I love the challenge.  I try to get my arms to move at the same time as my feet.  I usually only focus on my feet...oh and lifting that damn belly button!

We prance, princess walk, leap...
Feet are in 1st position, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th etc position
I am learning many technical ballet terms.

The class is an hour and it goes by really fast.

I am havin fun!!

The music it is pretty good too.

Confession

So I have a confession to make:

I quit ballet.

Yup for the second time in my life I have quit ballet.  No I did not get in trouble for not having my hair up nor was it when the teacher asked me if it was my first time to class.  It was my third class (I did have a two week break but as I said before I was really bad).

It was when she asked who would like to do a recital.  And 2 out of the 5 students said YES!

HUH?  I am a forty year old woman I do not need to get up on stage and perform a routine for family and friends!  We would wear matching outfits and perform in the year end recital.  Oh we didn't even get to what the outfits would be or whether we would be posing for a group and individual photos, which seem to be part of the dance world's customs.

I signed up to get a different workout experience, to really challenge myself and to cross it off my Bucklist.  The instructor said the class was going to go from a workout to practicing a routine ( and not even a ballet routine but a more contemporary one)!

I left that night never to return.
My ballet slippers are shelved but will be worn  to dance again! Whether it is in my room to the music in my head or throughout the house while the radio plays.

This dancing requires no recital:)

Point pliƩ leap
I am outta here.
