A Robyn in a relationship, caring for her two darling blue eggs. I try to maintain the Nest as a cozy commemorative place for our adventures, our struggles, our highlights and even some of the lows. Speckled within, there will be some shout outs, a favourite recipe, lots of photos and a chuckle or two. In the end, I LOVE my blog because it is a collage of our memories. Whether a few visit the Nest or many, the Nest will be here. Welcome.

Clara Hughes Jersey?
So I found a contest to win a signed cycling jersey from Clara Hughes. All you had to do was to write about your best cycling/biking story. Here is mine:
I do not know if I will win...I will keep you posted.
I am soooo excited for the Olympics to start!!!!!
My favourite experience on a bike can not be narrowed down
to just one experience but two.
My first, when I was about ten years old, was going for bike
rides around the neighbourhood, during our summer holidays, with my Mom. “Oh
nice”, you say but you have to know that my Mom did not know how to ride a
bike. One memory I have is of her
crashing against the curb, in an attempt to learn how to ride a bike. But she must have gotten back on that bike
and learned. Her learning enabled me to
have the wonderful memory of myself, my two sisters and her exploring the
neighbourhood on our bikes. To this day
my sisters and I still talk about it.
Fast forward to June 2011, two of my co-workers and I get
out of work and go on a 40 km bike ride, from Sittsville to Carleton Place. Although I biked throughout my childhood and
with my own kids today, by no means am I a cyclists. So this bike ride with my more experienced
cycling friends was a true challenge for me.
Although my thighs were burning, between my shoulder blades ached and my
butt was so sore, it was so, so, so much fun!
We had time to chat, we saw a baby turtle trying to cross our path,
smelt a farmer’s field with fresh fertilizer and thought we might have to dodge
bullets as we rode by a firing range. I
felt I had accomplished something and pushed my body to see if it was capable
and learned that it was!
Basically, both my biking/cycling stories are pretty simple
“rides” but so valuable as a memory to me.
I plan to have many more of these memories with my own children and I
hope to push my body much more to see all that it is capable of, maybe not
Clara Hughes level of pushing but satisfying enough for me.
I do not know if I will win...I will keep you posted.

What a great cause!
So what are you doing June 17th? We are going to support a great family and a great cause! We are doing the Sens Foundation WALK ROLL & RUN for Rogers House. We will probably roll...
Check out the great photos of our friend Jenny's grandson who is on Chris Neil's All Star Team for the event. Last year my sisters and I went to a great fundraiser for Connor. He is a huge Sens fan and so is his Granny!

Got my summer reading...
So this summer I will be reading the Fifty Shades Of Grey trilogy, Heaven Is Here by Stephanie Nielson and maybe the latest by John Irving "In One Person". I actually will probably be done mid-summer so if you have any other recommendations or books to lend let me know.
Happy Mother's Day
On the first Mother’s Day after my Mom passed away, my
sister and I were in Chapters and I bought a book about motherless daughters. I
also gave Mother’s Day cards to every mom-friend I knew. But I do not remember being sad…looking back
it seems a little pathetic.
I was asked by one of
my friends if Mother’s Day was hard for me?
I actually had to think about it and I realized it is not. It is not that I do not miss my Mom and yes
Mother’s Day would be a time to think of her but I think of her every
day.
I do remember bringing breakfast in bed for my Mom that was
our tradition. Now I have children and
we have a family Mother’s Day tradition with Jeff’s family. That is my focus. I love my kids so much and am so grateful to be a mom. Breton is me only better and Daphne is so opposite me in some ways I wonder where did she get all her outgoingness but I love every bit of both of them. They make my mothering look good:)
Everyone today should give their Mom a squeeze and a kiss
and tell her you love her.

So...
So Jeff and I have enjoyed re-watching Little House On The Praire with the kids. Just recently they have gotten into it. We tape it every night and then watch it all together when we can. I love watching shows that the whole family can enjoy. Some kids shows out there are painful to watch with the kids. Another one we like is America's Funniest Videos!
So...
the other day I was driving the kids to school and on the radio they were getting people to call in with their most embarrassing Mom stories. One woman called in and she said her story was catching her Mom buying condoms... So from the backseat I hear "Mom, what are condoms?" It was Daphne! Yikes!!! I told her I'd tell her when she was older.
When do I tell her? When she is a teenager right?
